High School Hockey Player Dies From Injuries In Exeter Crash
Matthew Dennison, 17, died at Rhode Island Hospital in Providence Thursday, following a crash with a drunken driver, authorities said.
EXETER, RI — One of the two West Warwick high school hockey players who were seriously injured in a crash in Exeter died, school officials said.
Matthew Dennison, 17, died at Rhode Island Hospital in Providence Thursday evening, Superintendent Karen Tarasevich told WPRI 12.
"Matt was a beloved member of the West Warwick High School community and captain of the WW/EWG hockey team," Tarasevich said in a statement. "We hold Matt close to our hearts as we remember him as a wonderful young man who will forever be part of our WWPS community. "His strong character, leadership, friendship and kindness will be greatly missed, as so many were touched by his presence at WWHS."

Dennison and Kevin Macdonald, 17, both suffered serious injuries in a head-on collision on Ten Rod Road in Exeter on Feb. 12.
Police said the driver of the other vehicle, Alexander Krajewski, 30, of North Kingstown, was arrested and charged with two counts of driving under the influence resulting in serious injury and driving to endanger injury resulting. Krajewski is a firefighter in Newport.

A judge at 4th District Court in South Kingstown allowed Krajewski to continue driving with an ignition lock, because he needs to drive to Connecticut for paramedic classes.
