Local 8th Graders Win Scholarships
The students are from Newport, Middletown, Saunderstown, Portsmouth, Bristol and North Kingstown.

A group of deserving eighth graders who work hard in school, spend time serving the community and know how to write a good answer to an essay question have received a scholarship from People’s Credit Union.
Here’s the thing: each received $500, but they have a chance of earning more as they work their way toward high school graduation.
For each final grade that is an A, $50 is added to the scholarship amount. A B gets $25. The maximum amount to be earned is $1000 by grade 12.

People’s Credit Union also recently awarded $6,000 to six local students who were in the same boat in 2011 when they were eighth graders. If you do the math, it’s clear that each earned $1,000, which is the maximum.
They are: Daniel Donnelly of Portsmouth, Sarah Morris of Newport, Melanie DeSilva of Bristol, Alyson Fairbrother of West Kingston, Keri Heuer of Middletown and Amanda Gormley of Coventry.
