Man Claims Someone Else put Cocaine in his Pants

North Kingstown Police charged a 30-year-old East Providence man with cocaine possession after a traffic stop.

A 30-year-old East Providence man is facing charges of felony narcotics possession after police found a small bag of cocaine after a traffic stop.

And police said Jason Amorim, of 71 Mary Ave., claims someone else wore his pants and the cocaine wasn’t his.

Police said an officer on routine patrol on Aug. 24 saw a silver Nissan Maxima parked behind Oatley’s Restaurant while it was closed.

As the officer pulled in, Amorim reportedly could be seen rummaging through the center console and “kept looking back” at the officer as he approached.

Amorim then drove away and was promptly pulled over.

Police said the inside of the car smelled like marijuana and Amorim, who was driving two passengers, said they were just coming from a friend’s funeral.

Officers had everyone get out of the car and Amorim was found to be carrying $1,830 cash, which he claimed was from his tax return, and a small glassine bag containing about .7 grams of cocaine. The two passengers were searched with negative results and released at the scene.

They also found a glass jar in the driver’s side door with marijuana residue and a coffee cup thermos in the center console containing a number of burnt marijuana cigarettes, or roaches.

Amorim reportedly seemed surprised when officers found the cocaine and said someone else wore his pants and put the cocaine in the pocket.

Amorim was held overnight as a probation violator due to a prior narcotics possession conviction in 2006 and arraigned the next day in Sixth Division District Court.

He was released on surety bail and is due to appear for a pre-arraignment disposition conference on Oct. 27.
