NK School Board Member Might Resign Following Arrests

North Kingstown School Committee Chairman Larry Ceresi was arrested by Lincoln Police twice in recent weeks.

North Kingstown School Committee chairman Larry Ceresi might step down from the committee following his arrests and no contest pleas to multiple charges of violating a no-contact order by Lincoln Police recently.

Ceresi garnered the most votes of all School Committee candidates in November and said that he would like to continue serving on the committee, but might step down if his recent arrests pose a distraction to the board’s work.

Court records show that Ceresi was arrested on Jan. 27 and Jan. 29 in two separate incidents. He ended up with three misdemeanor charges of violating a no-contact order.

He pleaded no contest to the charges and was sentenced to one year of probation. He was also ordered to get domestic violence counseling.

If Ceresi does resign, the town might end up with the Town Council making an appointment to replace him, the North East Independent reported.

Ceresi, 43, was first elected to the committee in 2006, and has served as chairman from 2008 to 2010.

There was some controversy in 2013 when he was arrested in Lincoln on a felony charge of domestic stalking. Those charges were later dropped after the victim refused to go forward with pressing charges.

He was also arrested in North Kingstown in 2012 for domestic simple assault, domestic disorderly conduct and other charges but they were dismissed as well.
