North Kingstown's Meg Stowe Takes On New Role At Rocky Hill

NORTH KINGSTOWN, RI - From Rocky Hill School: Rocky Hill School in East Greenwich, Rhode Island is pleased to announce the appointment of Meg Stowe as the School’s new Director of Innovation. Stowe will coordinate partnerships and develop curriculum that will continue to expand the School’s innovative learning environment. She will have an integral role in shaping the School’s new partnership with LearnLaunch, a nationally recognized organization in Boston dedicated to connecting, supporting, and investing in the education technology ecosystem. Under the guidance of Stowe and Head of School James Tracy, the School is creating a collaborative platform where entrepreneurs from LearnLaunch, educators, and students can work together to develop and test the next generation of digital classroom tools in a real-world environment. Students will also have the opportunity to intern with the entrepreneurs as they advance through the critical stages of product development and testing, marketing, and business planning. Beyond managing the School’s innovation integration, Stowe will work with key education and business leaders in the state to share this opportunity with the public school and higher ed sectors and help build opportunities for Rhode Island business development in the edtech market.

Stowe is ideally suited for the role as she has extensive experience and training in education with specific focus on integrated curriculum design, adolescent development, and leadership while also being a business owner/social entrepreneur herself. She earned her undergraduate degree from Denison University and received her Master of Education from Lesley University. She has taught, coached, and advised students in public, charter, and independent schools and created programs focused on project-based team teaching, advising, service learning, and leadership. As a leader in education, Stowe has designed and delivered workshops and trainings for teachers and students in Florida, Rhode Island and Massachusetts related to adolescence, brain development, education, and leadership.

Stowe is the Founder and Executive Director of Girls Leadership Collaborative (GLC), a site-based leadership development program that empowers girls, equips educators, and supports parents as they guide young women to become agents of change in their communities. Through the program girls discover their strengths and learn to apply leadership skills to answer GLC's driving question: How can what it is we know, and are able to do, impact a community, a cause or the world. GLC was selected for participation in Social Enterprise Greenhouse's Accelerator, an intensive business development program designed in partnership with Brown University and was chosen to compete in the New England Innovation Awards for 2017 at Bentley University. Stowe also served as a Visiting Scholar for the Garner Carney Leadership Institute Leadership Lab where she presented about her social venture work to educators from across the country. Her success with GLC has provided her with real-world business development experience ranging from creating a mission, vision and program to managing all aspects of marketing, hiring, and operations. Stowe has impacted over 300 girls through the work of GLC and she has hired, mentored, and trained more than a dozen staff members and multiple high school and college interns.

As a proponent of inquiry-based discovery, Stowe remarked, “I am extremely excited to begin this venture at Rocky Hill School with a talented team of educators and administrators. Together, we will look to answer the driving questions, ‘What kind of learner will emerge from this newest and most disruptive technology revolution? How and why will students successfully navigate the coming challenges and opportunities?’ We will uncover how schools can leverage the phenomena and processes integral of innovation for the benefit of students, their communities, and the world. This will require integration with entities outside the domain of education. It is there that we will find the intersection of education and innovation and develop the skills students will need to be part of a future workforce yet to be imagined.”
