Ocean State Soccer u12 Girls "Wildcats" win Rhode Island Youth Soccer Cup Championship

The Ocean State Soccer (OSS) U12 Girls completed a very successful season by winning the Soccer Rhode Island Cup championship in the Anchor ("A") division on June 23rd. The “Wildcats” under the direction of Coach Jeff Boldt defeated teams from Warwick, Coventry and Portsmouth to clinch the championship at Deerfield Park in Smithfield. The prior weekend the OSS Wildcats went undefeated, beating 4 Premier teams from Massachusetts and New Hampshire to win the elite Global Premier Soccer Father’s Day Tournament held at Bryant University. The girls outscored their opponents 15-4 over four games! These impressive championships come on the heels of a strong top-3 division finish in the prestigious Massachusetts Premier League (MAPLE) this past spring. The Ocean State girls were the only club team from Rhode Island participating in their age group in MAPLE. The girls are the cornerstone of a new philosophy at Ocean State whereby the clubs top teams are being given the opportunity to compete in MAPLE, a league long dominated by Premier clubs from Massachusetts and southern New Hampshire. Because of the strong showing by the Wildcats in the previous MAPLE fall season, Ocean State was allowed to also enter teams at Boys U10 and Girls U17 this past spring, with both teams also performing well. The plan is to now add another MAPLE team this coming fall. According to Bob Jones, Ocean State’s Competitive Vice President, “with the high quality coaching, top-rate facilities, and supplemental training provided at Ocean State Soccer School, OSS teams now have the opportunity to not only participate in but to do well in Premier leagues and Premier tournaments, Ocean State is proving that kids in our local communities can get a premier like soccer experience for a small fraction of the cost and travel associated with Premier soccer”.
