State officials fine asphalt company in Quonset $8K (independentri.com) — State environmental officials have fined Bitumar $8,500 after strong asphalt odors from its North Kingstown Davisville facility were documented making an inspector nauseous and prompting more than 160 complaints. The company must quickly hire a consultant, craft an odor management plan, and meet strict reporting deadlines, while town leaders continue pressing for relief for nearby neighborhoods.
   

2. SK police say investigation into hospital bomb threat call remains open (independentri.com) — North Kingstown officers were among 75 police who rushed to South County Hospital after a caller falsely claimed bombs were planted and an AK-47-armed suspect was nearby. The threat forced a lockdown, diverted patients, and triggered extensive searches before the hospital safely reopened, with investigators still trying to trace the non-local phone number used.
   

3. A Beginner's Guide to Recreational Shellfishing in Rhode Island (uri.edu) — North Kingstown residents curious about clamming can legally harvest shellfish for personal use, as long as they follow RIDEM rules on open areas, sizes, and limits. Beginner programs like Come Clam With Me and resources such as Shellfish Shorts highlight spots including North Kingstown Town Beach, while stressing safety, water quality checks, and protecting local shellfish populations.
   

4. Westerly Trans Athlete AG Request Fails on 3-4 Vote (upriseri.com) — North Kingstown residents were among dozens who traveled to Westerly to weigh in on whether the school district's transgender athlete policy conflicts with a recent Supreme Court ruling. After intense, often emotional testimony, the Westerly School Committee narrowly rejected asking the state Attorney General for an opinion, leaving current participation rules in place for now.
