📰 News we're reading

1. North Kingstown Underbilled Block Island Schools for Years (upriseri.com) — North Kingstown's technology director revealed that a 2017 contract to support Block Island schools never received its required 4% yearly fee increases, leaving the district potentially underpaid for years of work. The School Committee is weighing whether to seek back payments, raise fees, or end the agreement, with a detailed recommendation expected back on the agenda in December.

2. North Kingstown Schools Face 2nd Open Meetings Complaint (upriseri.com) — North Kingstown parents and residents are being formally notified that the School Committee violated the state Open Meetings Act once and faces a second pending complaint, prompting changes to how agendas and minutes are handled. Members are tightening agenda language, seeking statewide guidance, and delaying approval of detailed minutes to better match policy, with key meetings set for September 14 and 22.

3. North Kingstown Rips Bus Study Built on One Day of Data (upriseri.com) — North Kingstown school leaders are pushing back on a state-backed bus efficiency study they say relied on just one day of flawed ridership data and misclassified special-education buses. Because the draft report feeds into redistricting, start-time, and transportation planning, officials are withholding payment and sending it back for corrections while their attorney reviews whether the vendor delivered what was promised.

4. The results are in! Here's who won Wednesday's high school games in RI (newportri.com) — North Kingstown athletes were in the thick of Wednesday's Rhode Island high school action, with boys soccer falling 1-0 to Central and girls volleyball slated to visit La Salle tonight. The roundup also highlights scores across soccer, field hockey, tennis, and volleyball, plus a full schedule of upcoming games that local fans can still catch.
