Set in the fictional Rose Beach (Plum Beach), the story spans a four-day period during which Helen and her husband Zeke must decide whether to sell their summer cottage. The deceits and lies accumulated over sixty years of marriage are revealed by each of them, their son (who is estranged from Zeke) and her doctor friend, Hattie. Zeke is battling Parkinson's. Helen is faced with managing his physical and emotional decline. She seeks a way to bring them together at the same time she must reveal her secret to Zeke. She looks to her past as she tries to keep her family from unraveling.
