A decorated combat veteran of Vietnam and former Airborne Ranger, Rhode Island author David Slone, chose a 78-year-old woman as the narrator of his first published novel.
Set in the fictional Rose Beach (Plum Beach), the story spans a four-day period during which Helen and her husband Zeke must decide whether to sell their summer cottage. The deceits and lies accumulated over sixty years of marriage are revealed by each of them, their son Davey (who is estranged from Zeke) and her doctor friend, Hattie. Helen is faced with managing the physical and emotional decline of Zeke, who is stricken with Parkinson’s. She seeks a way to bring them all together at the same time she must reveal her secret to Zeke. She looks to her past as she tries to keep her family from unraveling.
