Police: NK Man Slams Hospital Door Against Newport Cop's Foot
Police said the 27-year-old was arrested for disorderly conduct.
A 27-year-old North Kingstown man was charged with simple assault by Newport Police early Sunday morning after he allegedly slammed the door to a hospital room on an officer’s foot.
Police said Paul M. Henriques, 27, of 36 Tully Way, was taken to Newport Hospital after he complained of injuries he said he sustained after a bouncer assaulted him inside a city establishment.
But Henqirues showed no signs of injury and after speaking with staff at the Fastnet Pub, police determined that he was extremely intoxicated and fell off a bar stool before leaving on his own accord.

The incident began at around 1:10 a.m. when Henriques reportedly approached a patrol vehicle near the bar and fell against it.
The officer got out to check on his condition and saw he was intoxicated, according to a police report.

Henriques then became belligerent, police said, and said he wanted to go to the hospital because he hit his head.
Once at the hospital, police said Henriques continued to be unruly and was aggressive towards hospital staff, refusing to get into his gown and then demanding to be released even though “he’d requested repeatedly to be brought to the ER.”
Police reported telling Henriques that they were just trying to help him before he began to close the door on an officer, eventually slamming the officer’s foot as it was just inside the door frame.
Henriques was then handcuffed. After a check by medical staff, he was transported to the police station for booking.
Bail for the charge was set at $10,000 with surety and he was transported to the Adult Correctional Institutions in Cranston after he was unable to post bail.
He was due to return to court on Monday for arraignment.
