Providence Gridiron Club Honors Five College Players
Nick Murgo also won the Pride of Rhode Island award.

NORTH KINGSTOWN, RI - From The Providence Gridiron Club: The Providence Gridiron Club honored five college football players at its Annual Awards Night on Wednesday, April 4.
Besides the traditional awards given to the top gridders at Brown, Bryant, Salve Regina and the University of Rhode Island, there will be a new award initiated this year.
The Pride of Rhode Island Award will be given to a former Rhode Island High School football player, who stood out on the gridiron for an out of state college or University, bringing honor to himself, his family, his high school and the state of Rhode Island. The first presentation of this award will go to former Mount Hope All Stater, Nick Murgo.

The other winners in state are : Dewey Jarvis from Brown; Tom Costigan from Bryant; Brandon O'Neill from Salve Regina and Marven Beauvais from the University of Rhode Island.
RICHARD "DEWEY" JARVIS from Brown is a 6-2, 230 lb Defensive end, hailing from Belmont Hill High in Watertown, MA. He was a first team All-Ivy league selection this year, and in 2016 made All New England and ECAC FCS Division 1 All Star 1st team. He led the Ivy League with 18.5 tackles for loss and had a team high 7.5 sacks along with 65 tackles and five pass break ups. He also forced 6 fumbles and had one fumble recovery.

Dewey was invited to play in the 2018 Reese's Senior Bowl in Mobile, AL.
Currently he has been working out for the 2018 NFL Draft.
TOM COSTIGAN - Bryant - A 6-3 230 lb. Linebacker from Trinity Catholic High in Stamford,CT. He was the Northeast Conference Defensive Player of the Year and the ECAC Defensive Player of the Year. Tom also made All ECAC First Team and All New England. He was also named All Northeast Conference First team.
He recorded 103 tackles with 65 solos and 38 assists. Costigan tallied 17 tackles for loss, 11.5 sacks tying Bryant's single season record. He ended up fourth in the nation in sacks per game. Tom also registered one interception, 3 pass break ups and four forced fumbles. He was the first player in school history to earn STATS FCS National Defensive Player of the Week. He earned NEC Defensive Player of the Week two times and in five games posted 10 plus tackles.
BRANDON O'NEILL -Salve Regina - This 6-1, 230 lb. player hails from Daniel Hand High in Madison, CT. The Business Administration major appeared in nine games and registered First team ALL Commonwealth Coast Conference honors. He also made Academic All Conference having 34 tackles, nine for losses of 54 yards. He added to that with one forced fumble, 5.5 sacks, one Pass Break Up and one interception.
O'Neill was third in CCC in sacks and was named NEFC Academic All Conference,along with CoSIDA Academic All District. He has been chosen by his teammates to be a team captain for the upcoming season.
MARVIEN BEAUVAIS - URI - The 6-4, 211 lb wide receiver really blossomed this year.A Rhode Island All Stater at Cranston East High under Coach Tom Centore, Beauvais has lettered three straight years at Rhody. The Criminology/Criminal Justice Major was 7th in the Colonial Athletic Association with 67 receiving yards per game and 10th with 4 catches per game. He caught at least five passes in 7 of the 11 games and finished the season with 46 grabs for 732 yards and five TD's. He had a career best 152 yards on 6 receptions, including a 71 yard TD versus VillaNova.
The All CAA choice had an outstanding game against FBS foe Central Michigan,where Rhode Island almost pulled off one of the biggest upsets in school history against the MAC opponent. He contributed with 5 catches for 106 yards, including an 81 yard TD reception gem. He returns in 2018 for his last year for the Blue and White.
NICK MURGO - Allegheny - Washington & Jefferson- The 6-3, 235 lb. Linebacker is a former All Stater and Golden Dozen Award Winner. Started 42 straight games fortwo different colleges. Started at Allegheny (PA) where he was NCAC Newcomer of The Year, Team MVP, and Honorable Mention All League leading his team with 107 tackles one year and 104 the second.
At Washington & Jefferson He again led team in tackles and made Honorable Mention.
But, in 2017 came the capper. Nick was 1st team All Conference, 1st team All ECAC,2nd team D3 All South Region; CoSIDA All Academic; All District 4. He won the Brywn Strope Award as Defensive MVP and made ECAC and PAC Defensive Player of the Week. He made both ECAC And PAC Academic Honor Rolls.
Murgo finished his career with 396 tackles ranking 3rd for his career among all active players in D3 football and 12th in career tackles across all 4 divisions of
NCAA football. It is rumored that Nick will get a look from some teams in NFL,CFL and AFL.
The PGC's Annual Awards Night will also see the outstanding high school players and coaches from each division honored along with the Back of the Year, Lineman of the Year, Coach of the Year, the Lawrence P. Gallogly Humanitarian Award and the Gilbane Trophy to the Rhode Island High School Player of the Year.
