Rhode Island Watercolor Society Presents "REFLECTIONS" - An Open Juried Show

The Rhode Island Watercolor Society announces its upcoming open juried art competition “Reflections” which celebrates all Watermedia. Works selected for the show will on display and for sale from May 17 – June 12, 2014 at the Society’s Gallery, located at the J.C. Potter Casino (Boat House) in Slater Memorial Park, Armistice Boulevard, Pawtucket, RI 02861.
The Society encourages all to attend the Opening Reception to be held on Saturday, May 17, from 4 pm to 7 pm at the Society’s Gallery, and meet the participating artists. The reception and the gallery are free and open to the public. There will also be a demo at 4 pm by “Colors of Nature” Professional Quality Earth Friendly Paint. This will be a fun and informative interactive demo where guests will have the opportunity to try out some of the paint. Gallery hours are Tuesday through Saturday from 10 am - 4 pm and Sunday from 12 pm - 5 pm.
The show is judged by leading landscape painter and printmaker, Nancy Friese, who paints outdoors from direct observation, often of the Rhode Island landscape, where she also lives and teaches at the Rhode Island School of Design. She has also traveled widely to paint views from such places as Japan, Pont-Aven and Giverny, France, her native North Dakota and other scenes around New England. She has had more than 30 one-person shows and 170 group shows, nationally and internationally, including at the Barbican Center in London, the International Center of Print in New York, and Tokyo’s Metropolitan Museum of Art. Friese’s work is in 50 corporate and museum collections. She has been awarded three fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts and 15 residencies, including one at Monet’s home in Giverny. Friese came to RISD as head of Printmaking (1990-98).
