AG's Office Fires Employee Accused Of Removing Data

Shanice In, 41, of Providence, was arrested by Providence Police this morning. She had worked in the Bureau of Criminal Identification.

PROVIDENCE, RI — Shanice In, 41, of Providence, was fired from her job with the state Attorney General's office Friday. She was canned immediatley after she was arrested by Providence police. She is facing one count of unlawful access to computer for fraudulent purposes, one count of intentional access, alteration, damage or destruction, and one count of computer trespass. According to the Amy Kempe, spokeswoman for the Attorney General's office, In was employed in the Office's Bureau of Criminal Identification. She had been on the job for a little more than eight months.

Police allege she accessed state computers unlawfully, and on one occasion, removed data. The Office of Attorney General, the Providence Police, and FBI participated in the investigation.

“It is very upsetting and troubling to learn that an employee has engaged in this alleged criminal behavior. Our employees take great pride in the work they perform each day in serving and protecting the public. While this is an isolated incident, I want the public to be assured that the alleged actions of this employee will not be tolerated and will be prosecuted accordingly,” said Attorney General Peter Kilmartin.

In 6th Division District Court Friday, her bail was set at $25,000 personal recognizance.
