Ax Attack Outside St. Patrick Church In Providence
An argument inside the church was taken outside where one man repeatedly bashed another's head with an ax, police said.

PROVIDENCE, RI — Two men arguing in St. Patrick Church took things outside where one repeatedly bashed the other in the head with an ax, police said.
Officers sent to St. Patrick's shortly before 4:45 p.m. Monday found a 42-year-old man with "several open lacerations
to the top of (his) head, which were actively bleeding," according to a Providence Police Department report.

The bleeding man and "multiple witnesses" described the ax-wielding attacker as tall and clad all in blue, including a blue hat and blue shoes, holding a bag likely armed with a hatchet or ax, the report said.
An officer spotted the man in blue — identified as 28-year-old Jehvine Quaweay — several blocks away in the parking lot of the Renaissance Providence Downtown Hotel, where he was "concealing himself in between parked vehicles," according to the report.

"Quaweay was apprehended without incident and (a) search was conducted where police located a bloody hatchet/axe in Quaweay's bag," the report said.
The wounded man told an officer that he and "Quaweay engaged in a verbal argument inside of St. Patrick's church," according to the report.

The men then went outside where the "verbal argument turned physical when Quaweay swung at him with a closed fist," the man reportedly told an officer, relating how "Quaweay retrieved a hatchet/axe from his bag and struck him in the head approximately 3 times."
The wounded man "stated he has had problems with Quaweay in the past and wished t o press charges for this incident," the report said.

The wounded man was taken to Rhode Island Hospital, according to the report.
Quaweay was arrested on charges of felony assault and disorderly conduct, the report said.
