Providence Man One Of 15 State Police DUI Arrests

PROVIDENCE, RI — A Providence man was one of 15 arrested over Columbus Day weekend by state police on driving under the influence charges (DUI).
Yudis Mendez, 34 was arrested after police said he swerved into oncoming traffic on Route 44 in Johnston.
In addition to a DUI charge with a blood alcohol level above .15, state police charged Mendez with driving on an expired license. He was also cited for lane violations and not wearing his seat belt.

"Anyone who chooses to drive under the influence of alcohol or drugs poses a tremendous risk to everyone on our roads," State Police Colonel Assumpico said in a press statement addressing the 15 DUI arrests over the weekend. "We are fortunate that no deaths or serious injuries resulted from the alleged actions of these individuals."
