Woonsocket Police Log: Providence Man Breaks In To City Home, Allegedly Strangles Victim

City woman calls police from locked bathroom

Lawrence Andrew Hinton, 23, of 28 Diamond St. Providence was arrested on Tuesday after police received a call from a woman who had locked herself in a bathroom on Cumberland Street. According to reports by Officer Klocek, upon arrival police witnessed a person trying to leave the home via a back door and then via a window. Police gained entry to the building and restrained Hinton.

The victim told officers that she and her two daughters were sleeping when Hinton somehow broke in. The woman allegedly awoke with the suspect in her bedroom strangling her.  She told police she had struggled with Hinton on top of her for over an hour before escaping, grabbing her cell phone and locking herself in the bathroom to call for help. The victim showed signs of struggle including red marks around her neck. Hinton was arrested for breaking and entering, resisting arrest, domestic assault, violation of a restraining order, violation of a no contact order and a warrant.

Sears employee arrested for felony embezzlement

Daniel Ryan, 37, of Charlestown, RI was arrested on Monday for three charges of felony embezzlement after police received a call from a Sears Store Investigator, Denis Latour. Latour told police that after a cash drawer that was only accessed by managers came up short, he checked the store's records and observed that Ryan had created three gift cards for $250, $150 and $200. On Ebay, Latour found three Sears gift cards for sale with same value under the name "dryan001." Ryan allegedly confessed to stealing the property.

Transit Street man charged with harboring criminal

Derek Barron, 30, of 122 Transit Street was arrested on Tuesday after police conducted surveillance of his home in attempt to locate Katie Davis. Davis was allegedly Barron's girlfriend and was wanted in connection with Police saw two people get into a car belonging to Barron and found Davis hiding in back. Barron allegedly gave police multiple aliases and received a felony charge of harboring a criminal and obstructing an officer in execution of duty.

Ryan Michael Harnois, 20, of 609 South Main St. was arrested around 1 p.m. on Tuesday for possession of marijuana, driving in possession of a controlled substance and driving without a license.

Mark Edward Chamberlain, 40, of 45 Libbeus St. was arrested on Monday around 10 p.m. for assault, disorderly conduct and resisting arrest.
