Adult Education GED Scores Above Averages

SDPC Adult Education students achieve 99 percent pass rate on GEDs, outpacing the state and national averages.

Pickens Adult Education students passed their GED exams at above a 99 percent rate in the 2011-2012 school year.

They outpaced the statewide pass rate of 77.6 percent and the nationwide rate of 72.2 percent. According to SDPC Adult Learning Center director Mary Gaston, 120 of 121 students sent by Pickens Adult Education to take the test passed.

“Achieving a 99% pass rate is a major milestone for our program and is the result of a strong professional development program for our teachers, along with the hard work and commitment of both teachers and students,” Gaston said.

“Receiving a GED is a major milestone for many of our students, and we hope it is a stepping stone to additional training or post-secondary education.  Training and education are the tools our students need to build better futures,” she said.

According to the South Carolina Department of Education, General Educational Development (GED) tests are a group of five multiple-choice tests designed to measure the general knowledge and thinking skills required for a high school diploma.
