B.R. Skelton Will Be GOP Nominee In November

The political career of a member of the Pickens County Legislative Delegation is not over, despite appearances to the contrary. 

Rep. B.R. Skelton will appear on the November ballot for House District 3, despite losing the June 12 primary to opponent Ed Harris by 73 votes.  

As we previously reported, Skelton challenged Harris' win, stating that his opponent had not properly filed his election paperwork. 

Skelton filed an appeal to the state Republican Party committee, but that body ruled unanimously against him. 

The Anderson Indepedent Mail is reporting that state GOP leadership reversed their previous position over the weekend.

The Republican Party is dropping Harris from the Nov. 6 general election ballot, the Independent Mail reports. 

Skelton's appeal was the subject of a recent letter to the editor. 

"This lawsuit puts an even worse taste in the mouth of voters who are already upset so many challengers were thrown off the June 12^th ballot," Alex Saitta wrote. 

"This lawsuit shows just how far (too far) some incumbents will go to hold on to power because they feel entitled to a position, even when the voters have voted them out." 

While no one Republican in the state legislature is to blame for this, Republicans as a whole (the party that controls the legislature, that modified this law and left it so convoluted), have to shoulder most of the blame here," the letter continued.
