Boosters Fundraising for Green Wave Mascot Costume

Proceeds from club's student memberships will go toward purchase of Green Wave mascot costume.

The Green Wave Athletic Booster Club is raising money to purchase a Green Wave mascot costume.

All of the proceeds from $10 Green Wave Athletic Booster Club student memberships will go toward the purchase of the costume.

β€œWe know you are probably wondering what a Green Wave mascot would look like and we can't wait to show you!,” an email from the GWABC Executive Committee. β€œWe are really hoping that the students will get behind this effort.”

The GWABC is also taking donations from the community to help with the cost of the mascot costume.

The mascot will appear at sporting events, pep rallies, school events, elementary schools, parades and other events, according to the committee. Β

β€œThe students will be involved in choosing the name for the mascotΒ but first we need to raise enough money to make him a reality,” the email reads.

Fundraising for the mascot is a secondary goal for the GWABC. They are committed to supporting their student athletes.

β€œWe all know that athletic programs are not very high up on the District's list of priorities so it is crucial that we raise as much money as possible for our athletes,” the email reads. β€œMoving to the new EHS campus last year and assisting in purchasing new equipmentΒ was a very expensive year for the GWABC so we need more support than ever this year and we promise to be good stewards of the support we receive.Β  Transportation, equipment, uniforms, camp & tournament fees, etc. are an ongoing need.”

If you are receiving this email, you probably already know how important and beneficial sports are to our youth,” it continues. β€œTeam work, commitment, hard work, dedication, persistence, perseverance, comradery and respectΒ are just a fewΒ thingsΒ that come to mind that our students learn and experienceΒ from sports participation.

β€œLife long friendships are formed and coaches become mentors.Β  Let's face it, being part of a sports team is why some of our students are still in school today.Β  Their coach may be the only person that makes time for themΒ or tells them "good job" and that team may be the only place they feel they belong.Β  Sports can also help pave the way for a college education in the form of scholarships.Β Athletics may be way down on the District's priority list but our student athletes are at the top of ours.”

The Green Wave Athletic Booster Club is looking to increase membership this year and will be holding several membership events in August.

They'll have a membership table set up at Easley High School student registration from 12-6pm on Tuesday, August 6 and Wednesday, August 7 and from 12pm-5pm on Thursday, August 8.

The GWABC will hold a membership drive at Mutt's BBQ from 5:30pm – 8:30pm on August 8.

Boosters will also have a table set up at the Easley Football Jamboree on August 15.

In order to ensure that β€œevery penny possible” raised by booster goes to student athletes, the club is not mailing out membership brochures about the GWABC to all EHS students and current members, in order to save on postage and printing costs.

A brochure is attached to this story and brochures can also be requested by emailing greenwavebooster@gmail.com.

Brochure available at all membership drive events and both EHS and Gettys Middle School will be posting it on their web sites.

The organization is also in need of volunteers. Email greenwavebooster@gmail.com for to learn how you can help.
