Education- A Legacy

Virgina Uldrick, a legacy for fine arts education...

For those of you who remember the Greenville Auditorium you may recall the annual Singing Christmas Tree.

The Singing Christmas Tree was made up of high school students in Greenville County.  I am proud that my aunt, Virginia Uldrick, served as the conductor  from 1970-1990.  During the early 1980's my sister sang in the tree, and I danced to "Frosty the Snowman."

Today, my aunt was recognized by the Greenville Rotary Club and other sponsors at the Charles Daniel Memorial Chapel at Furman University.

A group of students who sang in the Singing Christmas tree between 1970 and 1990 came together for a special event where my aunt led the group one more time in some of their most special music... "Christmas was Meant for Children," and the "Hallelujah Chorus" among others.

Dr. Virginia Uldrick served as a choral teacher at Greenville High School, organizing principal of the Fine Arts Center, and creator and director of the South Carolina Governor's School for the Arts.

She believes in public education and the opportunity that every child can become whatever he/she desires to be.  She has high expectations for herself and others.

It was clear today that she has had a positive impact on the lives of many.

I am very proud of her accomplishments and that she was recognized in such a special way.
