Is There Anyone Willing To Help Homeless Vets in Pickens County?
A request for help in the community that is long overdue.
I have had something heavy on my heart for many years and now I want to see it come to fruition. There are no places for homeless veterans to be able to get back on their feet in our county that I am aware of. (if there are, please email me and let me know, I want to be a part of it if it's already going.) I know many people look upon the homeless, especially men, as drunks, druggies and general bums who just want a freebie. But after opening our church in this county, we have found out that there are many that made bad choices, went to a rehab facility, graduated successfully, but now they are back on the streets. They want to live a normal life now that they are clean, but there is no one to give them any help.
I want to start a place where they can be housed, taught how to do things that will help them manage a household, be taught how to handle finances and plan their budgets, learn how to operate computers and do simple word processing/spreadsheets. Also, help them get their GED's and/or go to college to gain the knowledge to obtain a job where they can be successful.
I have the ideas on how a program could be run successfully, but there is no funding to see this to fruition.
Is there anyone in the upstate who would like to help this come about? I'm a disabled vet and a minister, so I'm not looking at this for a way to gain riches for me or anyone. It would be great to provide salaries, but to have the facility get off the ground is the most important thing right now, and then if needed, employees could be added later. Volunteers would be essential.
If you would like to see this happen, please contact me (pastorkeithmoreland@yahoo.com). I plan to have a meeting after Easter with anyone who would like to meet and discuss this further.
Thank you for your time in reading this, and please consider this opportunity to serve others.
