Chamber Members Tour New Easley High School

Chamber members get first glimpse of new EHS facility before students return.

Easley Chamber of Commerce members toured the new Easley High School campus today, getting a sneak peek at the school before it opens next week.

EHS Principal Dr. Tim Mullis welcomed Chamber members, who dined at the new school for their August “Third Thursday” luncheon.

“We're so excited about being here,” Mullis said. “We have all the classrooms inside. We had five portables the last couple of years and every spring, when the weather started turning bad, we all panicked. I had to bring them inside, displace teachers. It's kind of nice to have everybody in one, safe secure location. All of our sports are in one location, which is great.”

The $36M campus will have a core size of 1,985, a figure that factors in 1,665 students plus 20 percent growth.

Superintendent Dr. Kelly Pew said the district is excited about not only the opening of Easley High School this month, but that Daniel High School is opening as well.

“We were holding our breath,” Pew said.

Now that the buildings are complete, crews have been working to install the technology needed for each school, Pew said.

“We're in good shape here at Easley High School,” she said. “We're going to be working to the last minutes at Daniel to make sure their technology is where it needs to be.”

“We are so proud of this facility,” she said. “We are just thankful for what we have in Pickens County. We will be good stewards of our buildings in Pickens County. I think our students will be excited when they come next week to these different locations.”

Pew said the new district facilities will spur economic growth in Pickens County.

“We're going to have folks that want to move here and be here because of the quality of education, but also because when they walk into these buildings, they will see the opportunities their children can have.”

Following the luncheon, Chamber members took tours of the new Easley High School campus.

Mullis gave them directions around the new school, encouraging them to view the gymnasiums, the weight room, classrooms, media center, and the auditorium.

“Those are great places,” Mullis said. “(The auditorium) is like a mini-Peace Center.”

Mullis urged Easley Chamber members to support Easley High in their efforts to raise the most money for Pickens County Meals on Wheels in the Sam Wyche Food Fight Bowl.

“We're going to beat them on the field, we'd like to beat them in the Food Fight Bowl, too,” Mullis said.

The deadline to donate money for the Food Fight Bowl is 3:30pm Friday, August 17.

Mullis encouraged Chamber members to come out for the first football game in the new Easley High School stadium, when the Green Wave face the Daniel Lions on Friday, August 25.
