City Approves Rec Center Purchase, New Jobs Expected

Bowers EMS will purchase the old Easley Rec Center and expects to add 20 new jobs

The city's old Recreation Center will be given new life next year after Easley City Council approved it's purchase by Bowers Emergency Services.

The former Easley Recreation Center located at 618 E. Main Street has sat vacant for several years. Bowers EMS plans to restore the building and use it to expand its operations.

"The best part is they may hire as many as 20 new employees," said councilman David Watson.

Randy Bowers said he plans to expand the Bowers EMS operation and to add as many as 20 customer service positions, possibly more.

The family-owned emergency services company is purchasing the former recreation center for $75,000 from the city.

Bowers said he does not intend to relocate the company's headquarters currently located at 301 East A Avenue. The company will instead use the new facility for expansion of their services and for use as a community center.

"We really want that building to be a showplace, we want to restore the historic value," Bowers said.

Bowers said work is expected to begin on the building early next year.
