City Council Moves Towards Annexation of Saco Lowell Road Property

During the first of two public readings City Council approved the annexation.The proposal will be up for final approval on Aug. 8.

Easley City Council unanimously approved a proposal to annex a residential property on Saco-Lowell Road Monday night during the first of two public sessions on the matter.

"Ordinance 2011-23 proposes to annex 3.22 acres of privately owned property owned by Olin and Joan Benjamin, and an adjacent driveway on Saco Lowell Road to provide a zoning designation of general/commercial," Mayor Larry Bagwell said. 

The ordinance was previously approved by the Easley Planning and Zoning Commission on June 11.

Mayor Bagwell asked Easley Building Official Tommy Holcombe if he saw any reasons the ordinance should not pass.

"No sir, the commission voted all in favor," Holcombe said. "There is a potential buyer for the property already."

The city has no official plans for the property at this time, however Goodwill Industries of Upstate/Midlands South Carolina has expressed interest in the property as it plans to construct a new facility in Easley.

The city has not received any public comment on the annexation of the property and no residents raised any questions during the meeting.

The matter will be considered for final approval on Aug. 8 at 7 p.m. at the Easley Law Enforcement Center. City officials encourage all residents to attend the meeting.
