Easley City Council To Meet Tomorrow Night

Agenda includes events ordinance and resolution regarding Pickens County Cancer Association two-day BBQ cook-off fundraiser.

Easley City Council is set to meet at 7pm tomorrow night at the law enforcement center, located at 220 Northwest Main Street.

Council usually meets the 2nd Monday of the month, but voted to move their July meeting to July 23, as several council members were due to be out of town on July 9.

Council is scheduled to vote on second reading to amend the city’s Code of Ordinances regarding parades, picketing to include events, block parties, filming, performances and demonstrations within the City of Easley.

The PCCA’s 2013 Pig Pickin’ Festival is slated for April 5-6 in Old Market Square.

The inaugural Pig Pickin’ drew some fire from residents concerned over the group’s request to be allowed to sell alcohol at the event, but council approved the request.

PCCA Executive Director Cynthia Smoak recently told Patch that city officials, police and officials with the PCCA were all pleased with how the first Pig Picking turned out.

The event raised $7,000 for the Pickens County Cancer Association, short of the group’s goal of $10,000, but the Pig Pickin’ had a good turnout in its first year, Smoak said.

She said all of the BBQ teams who participated in the first event have agreed to come back for the 2013 event.
