Easley Man Killed at Construction Site

An Easley man was killed when an excavated hole collapsed on top of him.

An Easley man was killed Monday afternoon while working at a construction site in downtown Columbia, according to WYFF.

Jerry Garrett, 61, of Easley was operating an excavator Monday at the construction site when he exited the machine and walked into the hole with another worker.

Garrett became trapped when the hole caved in around him. He was pronounced dead at the hospital at approximately 3 p.m.
