Easley Mother and Son Charged with Arson

The Pickens County Sheriff's Department has charged an Easley mother and her son with arson

A mother and her son are facing third degree arson charges in connection with a fire at a mobile home last weekend, according to warrants from the Pickens County Sheriff's office.

Billie Joe Freeman, 54, and Billy James Freeman, 17, of 139 Sylvan Court in Easley allegedly set fire to a mobile home located at 523 Clear Dawn Drive in Easley on Oct. 31, according to warrants.

The warrant states that Billie Joe Freeman sent her son, Billy James, to purchase gasoline. Billie Joe then used the gasoline to fill a bowl containing rags and cooking oil, according to warrants.

Freeman instructed her son to "start her car and wait for her while she placed the bowl containing the flammable mixture under the victim's mobile home and ignited it," the warrant said. 

A witness notified police and the responding Sheriff's deputy was able to extinguish the blaze but the fire had already "partially burned and melted the under pinning of the mobile home," the warrant said.
