Easley Mother Charged After Teenagers Fight Over Boy

Melissa Ann McCoy, 33, has been charged with two counts of assault and battery and three counts of unlawful neglect of a child.

A 33-year-old Easley woman is facing several charges stemming from an incident involving her daughter and two other juveniles assaulting another teenage girl over a boy.

Melissa Ann McCoy is facing two charges of third-degree assault and battery and three counts of unlawful neglect of a child, according to an arrest warrant affidavit on file at the Pickens County Sheriff's Department.

On May 18 McCoy and three juveniles, including her 15-year-old daughter, followed the victim and her mother in their vehicle to an unidentified address in Pickens County, the warrant said.

"Her explicit intent was for the juveniles to 'jump on' and 'beat up' the victim," the warrant said. The three juveniles allegedly carried out the act by "pushing and striking her body."

The event allegedly stemmed from a disagreement between McCoy's daughter and the victim over a boy attending Berea High School, according to the arrest warrant.

Pickens County Sheriff's deputies charged McCoy with three counts of unlawful neglect of a child because her actions placed her daughter at an "unreasonable risk of harm affecting her safety," the warrant said.
