‘Gravely Concerned’ readings and book signing by the author John Bayne. 5:30 – 7 pm at the Pickens County Museum. The book “Gravely Concerned” presents the graves of writers from the American South. The pictures of their graves, presented chronologically, illustrate Southern literary history, and this book memorializes the artists, some famous and some obscure. Many outstanding cemeteries are represented, particularly Oakland in Atlanta, Magnolia in Charleston, Bonaventure in Savannah, and Elmwood in Memphis. Built away from city centers, they feature curving pathways and roads, and were intended to encourage visitors to view the monuments, contemplate the trees and flowers, and otherwise enjoy themselves – the first city parks.
