Kimberly's Flight Book Signing

Join us on Sunday, June 10 from 3-5pm at the Captain Kimberly Hampton Memorial Library in Easley for a very special book signing.  Anna Simon and Ann Hampton will be here to sign and discuss their recently released book, Kimberly’s Flight: The Story of Captain Kimberly Hampton, America’s First Woman Combat Pilot Killed in Battle.

U.S. Army Captain Kimberly Hampton was a top scholar, student body president, ROTC battalion commander, and highly ranked college tennis player from Easley.  She graduated from Easley High School, and later from Presbyterian College.  In 1998 she was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the Army and quickly rose through the ranks in the male-dominated bastion of military aviation.  In early 2004, as she was flying her helicopter above Fallujah, Iraq searching for an elusive sniper, her helicopter was hit by a missile and she crashed to her death.  Captain Hampton was the first female military pilot in United States history to be shot down and killed as a result of hostile fire.  She was also the first female combat casualty in Iraq from South Carolina.  Kimberly’s Flight is the story of her exceptional, exemplary life as told by award-winning reporter, Anna Simon, and Kimberly’s mother, Ann Hampton.

This event is free and open to the public, though copies of the book will be available for purchase at the event.  For more information, please call the library at 850-7077.
