“That way we can tell the golf pro how many people are coming, so they’ll have enough golf carts and other equipment for us,” he said.

The tourney tees off at 9am Friday, July 13.

The tourney will feature door prizes, Black said.

“We’ll also have a putting contest and a longest drive contest,” he said. Those contests can be paid for at registrations.

The lodge hopes to be able to provide a free hamburger buffet as part of the tourney.

“If I get enough golfers registered by Wednesday, lunch will be included,” Black said. “If not, the golfers will have to pay for it themselves.”

Safe Harbor helps the victims of domestic violence in Greenville, Anderson, Pickens and Oconee Counties. It operates a 24-hour crisis line and provide emergency room support. Safe Harbor offers counseling, legal advocacy and support for clients who stay in the shelters or live in area communities. These resources are free - Safe Harbor is funded by the United Way, government grants and contracts, private foundations and community donations.

The lodge likes to “work with the community and provide assistance when we can,” Black said.

Members decided to help Safe Harbor, realizing that the state “always leads in the statistics regarding domestic violence and domestic abuse,” Black said.

“We try to help in our community,” Black said. “This is the first time we’ve done this.”

He hopes the golf tournament will become an annual event.

“If we get enough people, we’ll see that we’re actually doing a good thing,” Black said.
