Liberty Mom Accused of Killing Four Family Members Indicted

Susan Hendricks was indicted by a Pickens County grand jury.

A Pickens County Grand Jury has indicted a Liberty woman accused of killing four of her family members last October.

Thirteenth Circuit Solicitor Walt Wilkins announced today that the grand jury returned true bill indictments against Susan Hendricks for four counts of murder and four counts of possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime, according to a statement.

On Oct. 14, Pickens County Sheriff's deputies responded to a 911 call about a possible suicide at a Liberty home.

When deputies arrived at a mobile home on Pinedale Drive they discovered a gruesome scene with two people dead in one home and two more dead in a neighboring home.

Mark Wayne Hendricks, 52, Marshall Wayne Hendricks, 20, Matthew Wayne Hendricks, 23, and Linda Ann Burns, 64, were pronounced dead at the scene.

Based on an initial investigation and testimony by Susan Hendricks the deaths were thought to be a murder/suicide. Hendricks told police that her son Matthew had substance abuse problems and had been suicidal in the past.

After an investigation conducted by the Pickens County Sheriff's Office, the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division, and 13th Circuit Solicitor Walt Wilkins, Susan Hendricks was arrested and charged with the shooting deaths of four of her family members.

Prosecutors would not confirm what penalties were being sought in the case but did say Hendricks could face four life sentences without the possiblity of parole or the death penalty. Prosecutors said they will wait to review the evidence in the case. A trial date has not been set.
