Non-traditional Golf Tourney Set For Oct. 8

Mark your calendars for a golf tournament that organizers are calling anything but traditional.

The “Not a Traditional Golf Outing, Take III” puts a spicy spin on the charity golf tournament, according to organizers.

The tourney will be held 9am Monday, Oct. 8 at the Chanticleer Golf Course, Greenville Country Club, located at 502 Garden Trail in Greenville.

Celebrating its third year, the tournament will host up to 30 teams in a lively Color Ball Texas Scramble on the award-winning Chanticleer Golf Course at Greenville Country Club. A post-round fiesta will feature live entertainment from an authentic Mexican mariachi band and mui caliente tapas bites, beer, and margaritas.

The top five teams then advance into a unique winner-take-all Cross-Country Shootout along the fairways to determine the winning team, cheered on by fiesta goers and the mariachi band.

The cost is $1,250 for five person team or $250 for an individual player. Don't want to golf but still want to party? No problem! $50 gets you in the door at the fiesta.

All proceeds of the event will benefit The Hawkins Foundation and Greenville Free Medical Clinic to advance medical resources that serve the Upstate community.

The Hawkins Foundation and Steadman Hawkins Clinic of the Carolinas are dedicated to compassionate patient-centered care and the advancement of orthopaedics through research and education.

Their goal is to improve outcomes for orthopaedic patients world-wide through research projects led voluntarily by Steadman Hawkins physicians, often in collaboration with the scientific and academic community within South Carolina. Results of their projects are provided freely to the orthopaedic world through medical journals, associated publications, symposiums and conferences.

Through the Hawkins Foundation’s ACGME accredited Fellowship Program, it also brings surgeons to Greenville from all over the world to study and perfect the latest in surgical techniques. Dr. Hawkins, its founder and board chairman, has trained more than 175 surgeons and counting.

 Established in 1987 and celebrating its 25^th Anniversary in 2012, the Greenville Free Medical Clinic promotes wellness and provides caring, quality medical care and dental services, health education and prescription medications without charge to eligible low-income uninsured Greenville County residents.

The clinic operates four days per week at four sites throughout Greenville County. Medical care is offered by area physicians, dentists, nurses, ophthalmologists, pharmacists, and associated medical professionals, completely on a volunteer basis.
