Pickens Cafe Offering Unique July 4 Fundraiser

Pickens' July 4 celebration begins 2pm Wednesday.

A Pickens ministry outreach is offering a unique fundraiser that will give some relief to the crowds who come out to Pickens' July 4 celebration.

Cafe Connections is offering a Potty Pass to those attending the Independence Day festivities in Pickens Wednesday afternoon.

According to Ann Corbin with Cafe Connections, purchasing a $1 Potty Pass enables the buyer to use the clean restroom facilities at the cafe, located on East Main Street, rather than having to use a cramped Port-a-potties at the festival.

Cafe Connections opened earlier this year. Corbin and her husband Steve are both missionaries and sought to open a coffeehouse where they could share the Gospel in a non-threatening environment.

The couple urges those who work in Pickens to bring their lunch to the cafe or to use the cafe to hold business meetings.

Pickens' July 4 celebration, sponsored by East Pickens Baptist Church, begins at 2pm Wednesday in downtown Pickens when the rides open. A $5 all-day pass gets you as many rides as you want.

The music begins at 6pm. The lineup includes Mountain Faith, Brothersake, The Melodyaires, Family Harmony and members of the Young Appalachian Musicians.

The festival will also feature food and games.

Organizers says the area's biggest fireworks show, sponsored by the City of Pickens, begins at 10pm.
