Planning Commission Reviews Several Annexations

The Easley Planning Commission approved three zoning applications and denied one during a meeting Monday night.

The owners of a property located at 106 Pelzer Highway in Easley requested a change in the property's zoning designation from Neighborhood Commercial to General Commercial, which was denied.

"They want to put a car lot there and the car lot does not fit into a Neighborhood Commercial type zone," Easley Building Official Tommy Holcombe said.

Despite the presence of other General Commercial lots nearby, the Commission agreed it would alter the neighborhood.

"I would like to see transitional zoning there," said Commission member Pat Webb. "We don't need anything more intense at that location."

The commission approved the request from Goodwill Industries of the Upstate to annex and designate a second parcel of land adjacent to a Saco Lowell Road property they purchased recently, as General Commercial.

The first reading for the annexation of the property will be held on October 10 at the Easley Law Enforcement Center.

The commission also approved the annexation of 4867 Calhoun Memorial Highway where the buyers of the property wish to build a Quick Stop convenience store. The property requires a small portion of the property to be annexed into the city in order to install sewer lines. 

An annexation of two properties owned by HRS Properties of the Upstate, owners of Hendrick Honda, that was previously approved by the commission was halted after City Council's first reading due to the discovery of .016 acres of land that was missed in the original survey. 

"After two or three surveyors and countless meetings we found a piece about the size of this room," that was preventing the two Hendrick properties from being contiguous, Holcombe said.

Holcombe said the original survey was done incorrectly and the property extended across the street. Hendrick Honda has since purchased the property.

The Planning Commission has once again approved the application to annex the Hendrick Honda properties and the first reading will now be held on October 10.
