Upstate Energy Summit is Thursday in Anderson

Homeowners, business owners, commercial and industry leaders invited to participate in expo, which aims to highlight cost effective energy efficiency.

The 2nd Annual Upstate Energy Summit will take place on Thursday, July 26 at the Civic Center of Anderson, 3027 Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard. The summit brings together recognized leadership across key energy disciplines of industry, policy and finance. The Opening Session will begin at 8:30 a.m. Two sessions are scheduled during the day; the 8:30 am to 2 pm session is for Commercial and Industrial participants. The residential portion of the day will be held from 3 to 7 pm.

Rick Cothran, dean of the Corporate and Community Education Division at Tri-County Technical College, stated that one of the driving issues in today’s world is the cost of energy -- whether it is gas, electricity or natural gas. “Tri-County Technical College is proud to be one of the partners sponsoring the Upstate Energy Summit & Expo Highlights for Anderson, Oconee and Pickens county business and industry. As part of our mission to serve our community, the Tri-County Technical College Corporate and Community Education Division is dedicated to serving industry by providing training, employee development, apprenticeships forums and workforce development through QuickJobs training and other supportive services.”

Cothran added, “The Upstate Energy Summit & Expo, in conjunction with our partners, is another opportunity for us to address topics of concerns by providing the most up-to-date knowledge and expertise about motors, air, HVAC and new methods for reducing energy costs.”

“While we believe it is important to serve business and industry, our partners also wanted to include homeowners. Information and demonstration sessions will be held in the afternoon, providing individuals with the opportunity to learn what yields the best return on investment to reduce residential energy costs. In addition to informational sessions for homeowners, energy efficient vendors will display their products,” said Cothran.

This year’s Summit combines informative presentations by industry leaders and energy experts, educational breakout sessions for hands-on learning, case study presentations demonstrating real projects and real results, and networking opportunities for collaborating with colleagues and solution providers – literally something for everyone. Anderson County, in partnership with Pickens County, Oconee County, Tri-County Technical College, Blue Ridge Electric Co-op, South Carolina Manufacturing Extension Partnership, Piedmont Natural Gas, Fort Hill Natural Gas, Oconee Alliance, Alliance Pickens, WorkLink, Anderson Chamber of Commerce, Ever-Green Recycling and Duke Energy scheduled the 2nd Annual Upstate Energy Summit & Expo to provide education and hands-on demonstrations promoting energy efficiency and cost savings.
Recognizing that the future of the Upstate will be shaped by those who understand the advantages and take action to become energy efficient, our partners have taken the first step to bring together industry and policy experts for an interactive day of engaging discussions and presentations that will help educate and equip tomorrow’s energy leaders. During the Upstate Energy Summit & Expo, various sessions will address and explore ways to reduce energy costs and provide tools and resources to help transform Upstate industry into energy efficient, role models for South Carolina. Topics will include:


  • The importance of an Energy Management Assessment/Audit, which will show companies critical areas of inefficiency and mitigation measures that will lead to energy and cost savings
  • Technical insight into savings through efficiencies in lighting, compressed air, motor efficiency and HVAC systems
  • Introduction of local case studies - companies and local governments that are using best practices and are saving money through their energy efficiency programs

  • Additionally, afternoon sessions will be tailored to the homeowner, providing money-saving tips and information to keep more green in your pocket! Residential topics include:

    • Weatherization Techniques for the Homeowner
    • Energy Star Appliances - Quality Install to save you money
    • Grant Opportunities & Tax Credits Available
    • Recycling to keep more green in your pocket
