USC, Clemson Rivalry Heats Up

Clemson coach Dabo Swinney goes after USC coach Steve Spurrier and the Gamecock program after comments misquoting.

A remark by USC football's play-by-play announcer following Saturday's 34-13 win over Clemson has kicked the in-state rivalry up a notch — even after the game.

Todd Ellis quoted coach Steve Spurrier following the dominating win, USC's third in a row over the Tigers, by saying: "We may not be LSU or Alabama."

But Ellis apparently then went on to say: "But we ain't Clemson, folks."

That last part was incorrectly attributed to Spurrier on the Gamecock football Twitter feed by Scott Morgan. And Swinney, talking to the media leading up to the ACC title game against Virginia Tech, didn't take it well.

Clemson, as you probably know, has owned the rivalry. Swinney said "South Carolina is not Clemson. ... This is a place that's won a national title." He said the game was not a rivalry, but rather a domination.
