
KISSIMMEE, Fla. – Southern Wesleyan men’s soccer won their first match at the NCCAA National Tournament on Monday, defeating third-seeded Campbellsville 2-1 in Pool C action.
The seventh-seeded Warriors (13-6-2) will close out pool play against fourth-seeded Houghton College on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
Bruno Liozzi notched the game’s first goal in the 9th minute, scoring his sixth of the year on a free kick from 20-yards out. An early strike from Jonathan Ruiz just after halftime put the Warriors up 2-0. It was the third goal of the year for Ruiz and his first game-winner.

The Tigers (17-4-1) cut the lead in half in the 65th minute as Lewis Fyfe finished off a header from John Kennedy for Campbellsville’s lone goal.
Ruben Rodriguez made five stops in goal for the Warriors and Max Malachiyev made a single save for the Tigers. The Warriors took 12 shots in the match to 11 for Campbellsville but the Tigers registered six on target while the Warriors put just three on frame. In the end the Warriors were more efficient, scoring twice on those three targets.

The top team from each of the three pools will move on to Friday’s semifinals along with one other team. Pool play continues on Tuesday and Wednesday with a scheduled off day set for Thursday. The championship match will be held on Saturday.
