"Witness for the Prosecution" Opens Tonight

The stage at the is set for suspense as the theater opens tonight with Agatha Christie's "Witness For the Prosecution."

The cast of the classic courtroom drama has been hard at work navigating the tense twists and turns since the holidays.

Director Maurice Reed, of Easley, has directed three plays at the Foothills Playhouse and said he is especially excited for this production.

"Agatha Christie throws her little twists and turns in there and leads the audience one way or the other," Reed said.

The play is reminiscent of older courtroom dramas like "Perry Mason" or "Judd for the Defense", Reed said.

The plot centers around the trial of Leonard Vole, a likable young man accused of murder. Liking the odds of the seemingly simple case, the respected lawyer Sir Wilfred Robarts decides to represent Vole.

"I've got, for the most part very seasoned players," Reed said. "We also have some very young players."

The cast comes together perfectly to keep the audience guessing throughout the show.

"I'm very, very privileged to be working with this group of actors," Reed said. "I'm really looking forward to putting this in front of an audience."

The play opens tonight and closes on February 12 with performances on Friday and Saturday nights at 8 p.m. and Sunday matinees at 3 p.m.
