1. 51st annual Irmo Okra Strut returns Sept. 25-26 (thenewirmonews.com) — Irmo's signature Okra Strut festival returns to Moore Park September 25–26 with a full parade down St. Andrews Road, live music, contests, and family activities. Expect St. Andrews Road closures Saturday morning and a packed schedule at the Prisma Health Amphitheater and surrounding venues throughout the weekend. 
2. High School Football Week Five Highlights and Scores (wach.com) — Irmo fans will want to know their Yellow Jackets fell 20–14 to Dorman in an overtime thriller during Week Five of high school football. The roundup also includes scores, postponements, and in-progress games for other Midlands teams, helping local followers track regional rivals and upcoming game resumptions.
3. Saluda Shoals Riverwalk opens (thecolumbiastar.com) — A new stretch of the Saluda Shoals Riverwalk is now open, giving Irmo-area residents paved, ADA-compliant access from Dreher Shoals Dam along the Lower Saluda River into Saluda Shoals Park. The multi-phase project, funded by park revenue rather than taxes, will eventually link Irmo and Lexington to Columbia-area riverfront trails for walking, biking, and nature access.
4. American flag raised at Lake Murray Destination Landmark (thelakemurraynews.net) — A new American flag now flies at the Lake Murray Destination Landmark on the Irmo side of the dam, following a Constitution Day ceremony with Rep. Nathan Ballentine and local tourism leaders. The Rotary Club of Lake Murray-Irmo and several partners helped add the flag and pole, creating a permanent patriotic feature visible to residents and visitors around the lake.
5. Marine Corps veteran leads Pledge at Irmo Town Council meeting (thenewirmonews.com) — At a recent Irmo Town Council meeting, members honored Marine Corps veteran and local business owner Chris Arzu by inviting him to lead the Pledge of Allegiance and presenting him with a Marine Corps flag flown over Veterans Park. Arzu now runs Sergeant Fitness in Irmo, where he shares his military discipline through self-defense and conditioning programs for residents.
