Banning Selected for Major New Role

Lexington County Council Member Will Lead Regional Efforts to Boost Economy

Bill Banning, vice chairman of the Lexington County Council, has been hired by the Greater Lexington Chamber of Commerce and the Navigating Good to Great Foundation to spearhead efforts to make the Midlands more economically competitive, The State reports.

As the groups' regional development manager, Banning will concentrate on such areas as job recruitment and transportation improvements, and especially improving cooperative efforts among Midlands counties, the paper says.

Such cooperation is seen as vital if the Midlands are to compete against the Lowcountry and Upstate for industry.
