Historic Cell Phone Walking Tour in Lexington Now Available
A cell phone tour of downtown Lexington is now live.
The Lexington County Museum has partnered with the Town of Lexington to create a cell phone walking tour of Lexington's historic downtown. People can take the tour at any time.
The town has erected signs around the downtown area (mainly between Church and North Lake) that features a telephone number. If an interested party calls this number on their cell phone, the person will be prompted to enter the stop number they are at (which will be listed on the sign). When the number is pressed, the listener will hear a prerecorded message that will tell information about the structure they are standing in front of and a little about the history of the town (depending on which stop they are at).
The museum and town were able to get many of the town’s leading citizens to record the narration, including Judge Tommy Rawl, former mayor Hugh Rogers, Mr. Raymond Caughman, etc. Some were able to add their personal stories to the narration. The tour will allow people to learn more about the history of Lexington and some of the historic structures downtown.
