Lexington County Museum's Artifact of the Week: April 21-27

Highlighted artifact from the collections of the Lexington County Museum.

This week's featured artifact is a blanket chest owned by George (Gorge) Wessinger (perhaps Uriah George Wessinger 1772-1846).  This chest features the name of the owner as well as decorative floral designs on the corners.  Chests such as these could be used to store quilts, coverlets, clothing, etc. as most houses in the 18th and 19th centuries didn't have closets.

See this artifact and more at the Lexington County Museum, located at 231 Fox Street in downtown Lexington. Visit www.lex-co.sc.gov/museum for more information.

Also, remember to subscribe to our newsletter at: http://www.lex-co.sc.gov/departments/DeptIQ/museum/Pages/MuseumNewsletter.aspx. Check back next week for another exciting artifact!
