Lexington County Museum's Artifact of the Week: March 24-30

Highlighted artifact from the collections of the Lexington County Museum.

The featured artifact of the week is a Model 1855 Springfield Rifle Musket that was used during the Civil War by John S. Schneider Jr, the great grandfather of the donor.  This rifled musket featured a Maynard primer device and was a 58 caliber.  Schneider was the son of German immigrants who came to Lexington District in 1832.

See this artifact and more at the Lexington County Museum, located at 231 Fox Street in downtown Lexington. Visit www.lex-co.sc.gov/museum for more information.
