Lexington County Museum's Artifact of the Week: May 12-18

Highlighted artifact from the collections of the Lexington County Museum.

The artifact of the week is a stoneware jug made ca. 1850. It is possibly a jar made by Abner Landrum (1785-1859) in Columbia.

Landrum was a native of Edgefield District but moved to Richland District in 1831 because his pro-Union views clashed with many of his neighbors' pro-nullification stances. He began making pottery in Richland (near the corner of Covenant and Bethel Church Rd in Forest Acres today) by 1850.

This jug, used to store molasses or other liquids, came down through the Kaminer family, who lived just east of Lexington.
