Lexington Opens Lower State Baseball Playoffs at Home vs. Beaufort Saturday
First pitch is slated for 1 p.m.
Lexington, S.C. -- Top-ranked Lexington, fresh off its 7-6, 8-inning win over Lugoff-Elgin on Thursday in the 4A District 5 high school baseball championship, plays host to Beaufort in the opening game of the Lower State playoffs at 1 p.m. Saturday at Wildcats Field.
The Wildcats (23-4) won a thriller on Thursday. After letting a 6-0 third-inning lead evaporate, Zach Paquette stole home with two outs in the bottom of the eighth inning to secure the Wildcats second straight District 5 crown.
Paquette led off the bottom of the eighth inning with a single to right, his third hit of the game, moved to second on Cole McMillan's sacrifice bunt and stole third base with one out. After a pop out for the second out, and with pinch-hitter Brandon Camp at the plate and behind in the count 1-2, Paquette stole home to earn the win.

Beaufort, which is 16-9, needed just one win to claim the District 6 title on Wednesday against visiting Wando. After the Warriors won the first game 4-2, the Eagles erased a 5-4, fifth-inning deficit and knocked off the Warriors 6-5 in 8 innings.
