Lexington Sweeps Twinbill from Dorman, 5-4 and 8-3

Lexington, which improved to 8-1, plays host to Region 5-AAAA foe White Knoll at 7 p.m. Tuesday. The Cavaliers fell to 5-4.

Newberry, S.C. – Zach Paquette drove in the game-winning run in the opener and Cody Smith homered and Jordan Buster struck out seven in the nightcap helping top-ranked Lexington to a doubleheader sweep of Dorman, 5-4 and 8-3, in a non-league high school baseball doubleheader at Newberry College Field on Saturday.

Lexington, which improved to 8-1, plays host to Region 5-AAAA foe White Knoll at 7 p.m. Tuesday. The Cavaliers fell to 5-4.

In the opener, Paquette’s one-out, bases loaded single in the bottom of the seventh inning scored Smith giving Lexington the win. Smith, who also doubled and scored in the fifth inning, led off the seventh with an infield hit.  After he moved to second on Ryan Brown’s sacrifice bunt, Dalton Addy singled and Nick Ciuffo was intentionally walked to load the bases setting up Paquette’s game-winner.

Lance Elliott (1-0) was the winner in relief working a scoreless top of the seventh.  Drew Prince was the loser in relief allowing two runs on five hits over 1 1/3 of work.

In the nightcap, Smith belted a two-run homer in the sixth inning that gave  Lexington a 7-1 lead and Ryan Brown went 2-for-4.

Buster (1-0) was the winner allowing an unearned run on three hits with a walk over the first six innings. Drew Pickens suffered the loss allowing five runs, two earned, on six hits over five innings.
