Lexington's Brian Hucks Closing in on 300 Wins

Lexington High School head baseball coach Brian Hucks recorded his 299th win in the Wildcats’ 12-2 win at Aiken on Wednesday.

Hucks is in his second season as head baseball coach and assistant athletic director at Lexington High School after spending 12 seasons as head coach at Brookland-Cayce High School. He has a 299-112 career coaching record including 41-7 at Lexington.

The top-ranked Wildcats play host to Region 5-AAAA opponent and 8th-ranked South Aiken in a 7 p.m. start on Tuesday, April 9. See the remainder of Lexington’s regular-season schedule below.

Hucks led Brookland-Cayce to a pair of AAA state championships, six Region titles and nine District championships.  Hucks has had 58 players commit to play baseball collegiately and 16 players have participated in the North/South All-Star game.  Lexington finished 27-4 last season, won region and district titles and finished runner-up in the AAAA lower state playoffs.

Hucks, a 1991 graduate of Lexington High School, was a four-year letterman and starter in baseball and a three-year letterman and starter on the football team.  He was named MVP of the football team and Most Valuable Offensive Player of the baseball team his senior year. He was named All-Area in football and baseball, as well as, All-Region and All-State in baseball. 
 
Hucks attended the University of South Carolina after stops at Anderson Junior College and Campbell University.  He was a three-year letterman in baseball at USC as well as a tri-captain his senior year.  He also won the Irby Raines award given annually to the most inspirational player.  Hucks earned a B.S. degree in physical education from South Carolina in 1996.  He was a 31st round selection by Cincinnati in the MLB Draft and played in the Reds’ organization through 1997.

Hucks is married to the former Stephanie Smith of Pickens, S.C. They have two children, Caroline (10) and Jackson (5).
