Top-ranked Lexington Blanks Irmo 10-0 in Baseball Season Opener
Lexington (1-0) takes on Mauldin at 2 p.m. Thursday in the opening round of the International Paper Classic in Georgetown, S.C. Irmo fell to 2-2.
Lexington, S.C. — David Barboza, Dalton Addy and Reece Burnett had two hits each and three Wildcats pitcher combined on a 1-hitter helping top-ranked Lexington to a 10-0, 6-inning high school baseball win over rival Irmo in its season opener at Wildcats Field on Monday.

Barboza's two-run single and an RBI infield hit by Burnett highlighted Lexington's 6-run third inning that gave the Wildcats a 6-0 lead. An error, the first of three intentional walks to Nick Ciuffo and an infield hit by Cole McMillan loaded the bases. Zack Paquette delivered a sacrifice fly to right field and Barboza followed with a two-run single to left to give Lexington a 3-0 lead. Burnett's RBI hit, a steal of home and a wild pitch stretched Lexington's lead to 6-0.

The Wildcats scored four times in the sixth on a bases loaded hit by pitch and a three-run double by Cody Smith for the final margin. For the game, Lexington stole seven bases including two by Barboza.
Burnett (1-0) picked up the win allowing only a infield hit with two strikeouts over the first 3 1/3 innings. Elliott Lance worked 1 2/3 innings with three strikeouts and 8th-grader Chase Williamson pitched the final frame with three strikeouts. Jacob Ford (0-1) suffered the loss.
